µTorrent 3 alpha – Great things come in small packages!!!

The update of µTorrent to new version happened today morning. The new features in this version is too big that the version number is changed from 2.1 to 3 now. So we just checked this link to download µTorrent Version 3.0 (build 20814).  It is in the early development stages and only for testing purpose but we just replaced our old installation with this one.It's just 476 Kb and within seconds we are ready to play with our new toy.The download page contains several new features of this version but most of them are too technical to understand for just a common user so we just tried to find out something just works.

The interface is same except the left pane and a new green theme. The left pane contains a new menu item called apps. On clicking on apps menu we get an add-on gallery like page with 10 apps to add to µTorrent to increase functionality. These apps include a virus guard, µGadget to control µTorrent from Firefox and Internet Explorer, a built in file browser – Ubrowse etcetera. These are very useful apps.

 

The application icons contains a free label on the bottom, can we expect paid ones in the future? Another new feature is µTorrent web, that is for controlling your torrents with iPhone, iPad or Android device on the go. Setting a username and password on µTorrent preferences will let you login to web.µTorrent.com and from there control µTorrent.Live video streaming with a new protocol called Project Pheon is supported by µTorrent.These two features just worked fine during our test but some phones cannot log into web.µTorrent.com.

The find content option let you search different torrent sites, but this is very basic one in our opinion as this is done with any web browser. The torrent search idea of us is that multiple site search at once and display the relevant results sorted in this window itself. I hope this feature will be in next versions itself.

This is the mini interface of µTorrent, it resembles Firefox download window.(Don’t stare at it we are not downloading porn, it’s just the chrome OS virtual box image :-)). As of now µTorrent is the number one torrent client and by testing this beta we are sure for a long time it will remain in the same position.

Recommended ( not only for testers ) as it is an excellent program and can fulfill all your file sharing needs.

After installation Networx icon is available on the system tray. Double clicking on the icon brings a tabbed window of usage statistics, different tabs for different times spans.

Networx includes advanced tools netstat, ping and trace route. Give the ip address of a site and get information about host.

Set up Quota limits for monitor usage statistics and stop after your daily quota expires.

The settings menu items can tweak the minute aspects of the program.
 
Many languages are supported.
 
 
I have personally used and found Networx very useful tool so I recommend this freeware for everybody. It is outstanding in it’s field and it really Worx!!!
